PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL) reported the third quarter result with revenue of IDR13 trillion, rose 32% (year on year/YoY) and net profit of IDR2.1 trillion (73% YoY).
Thus, in this competitive environment, XL has revised its EBITDA margin guidance 2010 to be more than 50%.
President Director of XL, Hasnul Suhaimi said, ”In this quarter we focused specially on subscriber acquisition which lead to an increase of our total subscribers by 44% YoY to 38.5 million. On top of that, our EBITDA also grew by 60% YoY to IDR6.8 trillion with EBITDA margin of 52%.”
In August, XL offered simple and affordable package, “Paket Rame” with tariff as low as IDR25 per minute in order to stimulate voice usage further. In September, XL offered a lucky draw program, “Kejutan isi ulang”, to give out 10,000 free Nokia handsets based on top up points.

XL also introduced new tariff on timely basis, IDR100,-/minute for mobile internet usage to increase adoption on mobile data service. Due to popularity of facebook in Indonesia, XL offered “Free Facebook Mobile” where the subscribers are allowed to have full access to http://m.facebook.com for free.
Moreover, another benefit given for XL’s subscribers is free international data roaming for its BlackBerry’s subscribers at 7 countries: Malaysia (Celcom), Singapore (M1), Cambodia (Hello), Bangladesh (Robi), Sri Lanka (Dialog), Hongkong (Smartone), and Japan (Softbank).
In September, XL received approval for its second 3G carrier hence bringing XL’s total 3G frequency to 2 x 10 MHz with the position of side by side to optimize bandwidth capacity. By the end of Sept’10, XL had 21,623 BTS (2G/3G), increased by 15% from last year.
