Indonesia's parliament today endorsed Halim Alamsyah as a deputy governor of the nation's central bank. Halim Alamsyah, who worked as director for banking research and regulations, at Bank Indonesia since 2007, will replace Siti Chalimah Fadjrijah and will be in charge of banking supervision.
The other contenders for that position included Krisna Wijaya, a member of the board of commissioners at PT Bank Danamon Indonesia Tbk and former CEO of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). The others candidate is Perry Warjiyo, the head of economic research and monetary policy at the central bank.
In the voting process, Halim Alamsyah won 29 vote, Krisna Wijaya 24 vote and Perry zero vote.
Halim Alamsyah, 53, has worked at the central bank since 1981 after graduating from the economic school at Islamic University of Indonesia in Yogyakarta. He holds a masters degree
in economics from Boston University and was a visiting economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. in the 1990s.
