XL Axiata raise net profit IDR598 billion

PT XL Axiata Tbk (XL) reported 1quarter 2010 performance with net profit of IDR598 billion, an 18% increase compared to 4quarter 2009.
XL also reported total revenues of IDR4.2 trillion and EBITDA of IDR2.1 trillion. In addition, XL’s revenue generating base (RGB) subscribers grew by 5% to 32.9 million in 1Q 2010 from 31.4 million in December 2009.
XL launched various innovative tariff plans in 1Q 2010 and pioneered the “Combo” package which allows subscribers to enjoy limited bonus SMS and data access after certain usage of voice or SMS without daily registration. The various price plan options from which subscribers can choose according to their needs increased the usage of voice, SMS, and data services.
In 1Q 2010, outgoing minutes of usage increased by 17% YoY to 23.3 billion minutes, while SMS increased by 235% YoY to 32.2 billion SMS. The higher usage improved blended ARPU to Rp. 35,000, a 21% increase YoY.
Hasnul Suhaimi, the President Director of XL said, “Data revenue increased by 349% compared to 1Q 2009, which contributed 7% to the total revenue in 1Q 2010 with 12.4 million subscribers. The rapid growth is driven by the popularity of social networking application such as Facebook and instant messaging as well as availability of affordable smart phones.”
To further stimulate usage from the data services adoption, XL allocates 25% of its capital expenditure for data services this year. XL launched various other affordable data services. For BlackBerry users, XL introduced “BB Gaul” package, an affordable limited BlackBerry services excluding web browser and push mail. While for non-smart phone users, XL introduced “SMS Facebook”, where subscribers can do the various popular activities in Facebook and receive unlimited updates from their Facebook friends, for an affordable subscription fee.
Hasnul Suhaimi added “For 2010, we are committed to further improve quality of service which will maximize our customers’ experience in utilizing XL services. All of our services are launched with that commitment in mind.”
At the end of March 2010, XL had 19,904 BTS (base transceiver station, 2G/3G) covering more than 90% of Indonesian population which shows XL’s commitment to improve the quality of service.
